Abstract
Bacteriostatic activities of Newlox¢ç (sodium hypochlorite solution, diluted.) , Tego 103, Zephiran, and Phenol were compared each other in vitro tests according to Kolmer¢¥s method by using the organisms of staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, B. subtilis, and Ps. aeruginosa.
1) Newlox¢ç showed the strongest bacteriostatic activity against all strains and capable of killing: the E. coli, B. subtilis in 1, 000:1 dilution within 10 minutes, Staph. aureus within 20 minutes and Ps. aeruginosa within 1 minute in 300:1 dilution.
2) Tego 103 destroyed B. subtilis, Ps. aeruginosa within 5 minutes, Staph aureus within 10 minutes in 100:1 dilution and E. coli within 10 minutes in 500:1 dilution.
3) Zephiran was capable of killing the Staph. aureus, E. coli, B. subtilis within 20 minutes in 500:1 dilution and Ps. aeruginosa within 5 minutes in 200:1 dilution.
4) In this study, Phenol showed the least bacteriostatic activity. Staph. aureus and E. coli were destroyed on action with 100:1 solution for 20 minutes and B. subtilis and Ps. aeruginosa were destroyed on action with 100:1 solution for 10 minutes.
5) Expreased as the phenol-coefficient, Newloxz showed highest (range 3 to 10), and Zephiran (range 2 to 5) and Tego 103 (range 1 to 5), respectively.
